We are Preparing for the Next 100 Years!
We are actively working to establish a permanent home for Methodist Children’s Home of Greater New Orleans. We have been transient – without a permanent home – since Hurricane Katrina – and we are working to correct this.
On December 18, 2015, we purchased 125 acres in Tangipahoa parish where we will gather the best programs, practices and features of what we have developed elsewhere in Louisiana. We will put it all together in one place, the new permanent location of Methodist Children’s Home of Greater New Orleans.
52% of Louisiana’s population live in a parish within or touched by a 75 mile radius circle centered on our new property on Hwy 445, four miles north of I-12. This permanent locations puts our services in the middle of the growing New Orleans/Baton Rouge/Northshore Metropolitan area.
Today we lease buildings on the grounds of Northlake Behavioral Health Systems in Mandeville. We provide intensive residential care for 18 boys from 6 to 11 years of age who cannot live with their families or in a less intensive setting like regular foster care.
We will offer services encompassing structured residential care to equine-assisted psychotherapy, from intensive alternative educational services to a basecamp for the home and community services we will offer throughout the region. (Within a year of opening Methodist Children’s Home of Southwest Louisiana we stepped off our grounds in Sulphur and started a MultiSystemic Therapy program in Lake Charles.)
We are preparing now for the next 100 years of ministry to children and families in the greater New Orleans area.
While the first buildings are being constructed we will also begin preparing a portion of the property for group/experiential activities and animal-assisted therapies, bringing the most effective and exciting programs of our Outdoor Wilderness Learning Center in Dubach, Louisiana, to our new home in the New Orleans region.
